The proposed 262 km long expressway, which is slated to commence this year is expected to reduce travel time between Chennai and Bangalore by half the time. Land acquisition has already begun and the funding will be partially borne by the Government, while the contractor is paid in annuity. One of the key highlights of this initiative is that while slow-moving traffic take the service lanes, the main highway which is built for speed will not have intersections or pedestrian traffic including a huge obstacle of two-wheeler vehicular traffic. Since this project will takes it course through the states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, the distribution of work has also been shared between project directors from each state.
