Real estate developers are putting up hoardings advertising housing plots at affordable prices in the lush villages surrounding Parandur, where the state government has proposed building a new airport for Chennai.

Own a home or a plot close to the greenfield airport is a selling point, but it's also a sign that development will be chaotic and uncontrolled because businesses are driving up prices and preparing to buy up land.

The 4,500 acres designated for the airport's construction will need to be covered by a separate master plan, according to urban planning experts and former municipal administration officials.
