In a significant development, Kanchipuram District is set to become home to Chennai's second airport, located in Parandur. The airport project aims to enhance connectivity and cater to the growing demands of air travel in the region. The construction of a new airport signifies the region's progress and economic growth, with plans to connect it to the bustling Chennai-Bangalore Expressway.
The airport project will require the acquisition of approximately 57 acres of land, which includes government-owned plots. A comprehensive land acquisition process is soon to commence, covering 20 villages, including Parandur, Ekanapuram, Nelwai, and Mahadevimangalam. Adequate compensation will be provided to landowners affected by the acquisition.
To facilitate convenient access to the newly constructed airport, authorities have initiated plans to establish a metro rail service. Additionally, a link road is proposed to seamlessly connect the airport with the National Highway and the Chennai-Bangalore Expressway. The expressway, currently under construction at an estimated cost of 17 thousand crore rupees, originates from Irungatkottai near Sriperumbudur in Kanchipuram district and proceeds towards Bengaluru via Sungawarchatram and Govindavadi Akaram.
The introduction of the link road will significantly benefit travelers, enabling them to utilize the existing national highway and the newly constructed expressway for hassle-free journeys between the airport, Chennai, and Bengaluru. This integrated transportation network aims to improve connectivity, reduce travel time, and enhance overall passenger experience.
As preparations for the airport project and land acquisition move forward, officials have emphasized the parallel progress of acquiring land for the construction of the vital link road. This dual effort ensures a seamless transportation experience for passengers traveling to and from the airport.
The new airport in Kanchipuram District, connected to the Chennai-Bangalore Expressway, marks a significant milestone in the region's infrastructure development. It is expected to boost economic growth, create employment opportunities, and enhance connectivity, serving as a vital gateway for both domestic and international travelers.
