There are approximately 56.9 kilometres between the current Chennai International Airport and Parandur (1hr 48 min).
CHENNAI: Parandur in the Kancheepuram district, close to Sriperumbudur, will house Chennai's second Greenfield airport. The location was decided upon by VK Singh, the Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, who revealed it on Monday in response to a question posed by Kanimozhi NVN Somu of the DMK in the Rajya Sabha.
Some important things to remember are as follows:
1) A total of 4,971 acres will be used for the airport's location.
2) There are approximately 69.7 km between Chennai and Parandur.
3) Parandur is about 56.9 kilometres away from the current Chennai International Airport (1hr 48 min).
4) The Parandur airport is located 59 kilometres (km) southwest of the current Chennai International Airport and roughly
70 kilometres (km) southwest of Chennai Central.
5) DMK MP Kanimozhi NVN Somu questioned the government regarding the steps taken for the greenfield airport project in Chennai.
6) In response, VK Singh said, "AAI has found two sites at Parandur and Pannur that are relatively more feasible for the development of airports.
In order to carry out the Obstacle Limitation Surface (OLS) survey and charting work at the two identified sites, AAI has forwarded the Pre-Feasibility Report to Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation Limited (TIDCO).
The State Government has shortlisted the Parandur site as the location for the development of Greenfield airport after comparing the viability
and feasibility, including the presence of habitations and industrial establishments and the cost of land acquisition of both sites.
7) He continued by saying that "TN government is now required to submit a proposal to MoCA for grant of "Site Clearance" for the finalised site."
